Import, fees, and import documents

Imports are products received from abroad. The following information applies to imports into Austria: 

What fees might be charged?

For merchandise imported from third countries (countries outside the EU), the following fees might apply in addition to the merchandise value:

  • Import turnover tax 
  • Customs duties (flat-rate duty and customs duty rate based on the category of goods)
  • Any applicable excise duties – for all merchandise subject to excise duties such as tobacco and tobacco products, perfumes and colognes, alcoholic beverages and roasted coffee, instant coffee and other products with caffeine.
  • Processing and storage fee in the amount of 34.56 euros if we need to get in touch with the recipient
  • Import duties between 7.20 and 43.20 euros, depending on the merchandise value and product

For letters that weigh up to 2 kg and parcels that weigh up to 10 kg, this service is free of charge as part of universal services. Indicated rates are net and exclude all statutory fees and duties, especially VAT.Indicated rates for parcels over 10 kg and EMS items include all statutory fees and duties, especially VAT.
Please note: We will not charge the import duty for customs services related to items received from third-country online retailers whose worth is under 150 euros provided that the special VAT scheme pursuant to Section 25b of the Austrian Turnover Tax Act, Austrian Federal Law Gazette no. 91/2019 (import one-stop shop, IOSS) is claimed.

Submit documents for customs impediment

If there is a customs impediment, we will let the client know. We will get in touch via letter, via e-mail, or via the Austrian Post app.

In any case, you will have the option of submitting the missing documents to allow for smooth customs clearance and item delivery.

Customs impediment during item tracking

The customs impediment will be displayed in the item tracking overview. Clients have the option of uploading any missing documents by clicking on "Edit customs impediment. Submit documents".

Eligible for customs clearance and delivery

As soon as all missing documents have been submitted, we can proceed to customs clearance, after which the item will be delivered.

On the next page, you can edit your customs impediment. You also have the option of uploading the missing document.

How to get your import documents after customs clearance


Go to post.at/zoll/SENDUNGSNUMMER to view your import documents.

To see your import documents, you will need the item’s 6-digit code.

This 6-digit code is in bold print and always begins with the CRN, but only the last 6 digits are rele-vant.

You can download and print your import documents as often as you like within 3 months. If you do not have an Austrian Post online account or if the notice is not available in the item tracking service, you can get in touch with our Austrian Post customer service. To send you the notice, we will need the CRN number as all as a valid e-mail address.
